1.30.2016 Kalani HS Library

2016
Nearly a month a passed since the last post.

New books from the Maker Faire book fair at Barnes and Noble were processed and put in a special display.

Yesterday we had our voluntary Honolulu Librarians' Meeting. We had an overview of GLAD strategies. We created  Literacy Awards which can be given to students. These are not gold stars but future study guides to help them learn English in or out of the classroom.

Today I attended iTeach808 at Sacred Hearts with teachers from 30 other schools. The keynote was a skype session with Alan November on "Empathy: The 21st Century Skill." He shared google search tips on how to find information a foreign country to get their point of view of an event. This was followed by a "Global Learners Playground." 11 presenters shared their use of tech to reach out to the world. It was an amazing day of sharing and learning.

Apologies for not taking pictures.

12.3.2015 Kalani HS Library

Mahalo to everyone for making purchases at Barnes and Noble. The library received a $230+ gift card to obtain more books from your purchases. Thank you also to Kalani Robotics Team 3008 for hanging out with me at Barnes and Noble on November 7.

On November 8, my digital media class went out to the Canvas in Kalihi to take footage for our upcoming PBS Hawaii Hiki No story

On November 11, Kalani Robotics Team 3008 sponsored a FIRST Lego League Tournament at Kalani High School.

November 14, Team 3008 members represented Hawaii and shared their drone in the 2015 Real World Design Challenge through an online presentation.

The Introduction to Coding sessions continue. Kano Kits purchased with Good Idea Grant funds made these coding sessions possible as the library only had four computers until late November.
